Position: Level Designer

Drinkbox Studios is looking to hire a level designer to help support the development of a new, unannounced game project.

You are a designer who is getting tired of being a small cog in a big wheel. You have great ideas, but your current position at LARGE_COMPANY just does not allow you to think too outside of the box. Because of this, you feel a need to work on your own little game projects to keep your creative skills sharp. You have a lot more fun on these little projects than you do working on BIG_GENERIC_PROJECT at your day job, but at least that job pays the bills.

… or …

You’re passionate about making games, and have been experimenting with small game ideas on your own for a while. You’re proud of the small games you’ve made, and they’ve been well received by the public, but you’re not making enough money to make games full-time. You feel held back for a number of reasons. Finding talented people to help you execute your ideas with little or no pay is very difficult. Also, you don’t have a lot of experience with business or marketing, and getting your games noticed on a larger scale is quite challenging.

  • Work closely with the Lead Designer and Producer to ensure scope and milestones are met

Job Qualifications:

  • A love of games of various genres, with an understanding about what makes each genre special
  • Portfolio of game titles that demonstrate adept design / level design ability
  • Breadth of experience in design tasks: paper design, level layout, mission design, story and character design, AI design, player control, user interface, pacing, etc.

  • Autonomous, responsible, organized and professional
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to clearly convey abstract concepts
